Food 4 thought Have you ever gone babysitting and find out that a 2nd/3rd grader wants to show you there brand new shiny cellphone? Then you ask them what the use it for and they show you photos or games, or they only actually use it like 3 times? Why does our culture now expect ages nine and up to have cellphones when only nine/seven years ago only business people or adults had them? In 2001, the only person in my family to have a cellphone was my mom,who had 5 kids. 3 years later, my dad and 2 oldest siblings got them. Then the rule became freshmen got there cellphones at christmas. When my dad was in Elementary school he sold newspapers on the Eisenhower and such or went to cubs games with only his brothers (not older) and cleaned the bleachers. Did he have a cellphone? NO Did he desperately need to have it when he was 9? NO! Parent's Shouldn't be pressured to buy pricey phones for their third grader unless they think it absolutely necessary, not the culture.
I know that safety sometimes calls for such measures.
